The San Diego State University School of Public Affairs welcomes Kimberly R. Kras who joins the Criminal Justice faculty this fall as an assistant professor.

Prior to coming to SDSU, Kras was an Assistant Professor in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Kras teaches courses in criminal justice, specializing in corrections and criminal justice systems. Her work centers on the study of community corrections organizations and frontline practitioners, reentry and desistance from offending behavior, and utilizes both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. She is also focused on translating research findings into practice through practitioner publications, and on-site and web-based trainings.

Before teaching at UMass Lowell, Kras completed a Post-doctoral Fellowship at the Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence at George Mason University. She earned her Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri-St. Louis following a career with the Missouri Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole. She holds a Master’s in Criminal Justice and Criminology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
