Filmmaker and aspiring screenwriter Xander Sherer is graduating from San Diego State University’s Television, Film, and New Media program with a deep connection to his craft: storytelling.
“As a TFM major, I learned about all the different aspects of filmmaking that go into creating a movie. Additionally, I have gotten to work with many mind-bogglingly talented artists who have pushed me to be a better filmmaker,” shares Sherer. “The generosity and wisdom of my teachers and peers have brought me one step closer to being a professional storyteller.”
Throughout his time at SDSU, Sherer has spent countless late nights and early mornings on film sets.
“In my opinion, there is no better bonding experience than waking up at 7 am on a Saturday to move C-stands and eat crafty [craft services].”
Sherer’s experience in SDSU’s film program facilitated personal and professional growth.
“Making films at SDSU has pushed me outside of my comfort zone in a myriad of ways. From pitching to directing, making a short film has taught me to be a collaborative leader,” says Sherer. “Filmmaking has shown me the importance of embracing my identity and sharing my voice.”
