On Campus Involvement Enhanced Film Student’s Experience

Ava Anderson was selected as the Outstanding Graduate in the Television, Film, and New Media Program at San Diego State University. She was also awarded as the Outstanding Undergraduate in Screenwriting for Fall 2017. With a goal of working as a producer and screenwriter for television, Anderson hopes to someday have her own production company.
While at SDSU, Anderson worked as a production student assistant at KPBS, where she helped with filming of Evening Edition News and other programs. She completed two internships, one at the prestigious and highly competitive Television Academy Foundation. In the summer of 2016, Anderson studied abroad in Scotland, where she attended the Fringe Festival.
Her work in Television, Film, and New Media includes a web series, “The State Report,” for SDSU’s Associated Students, as well as advanced film projects titled ‘Beam Down for What,” “ParaNormal,” and “Alien Coma.”
Anderson was selected for the SDSU Associated Student Study Abroad Scholarship, the SDSU Student Success Fee Award, and the Kathleen Kennedy Fund for student filmmaking. She has worked as an Academic Mentor for Residential Education, where she held a leadership role with the Weber Honors College Community, the Women and Gender Equality Community, and the Discover San Diego Community. Anderson was recognized for her work by the National Residence Hall Honorary in November 2016, when she was selected as Academic Mentor of the Month.
Throughout her student experience, Anderson has maintained an actively involved role on campus. She has been involved with several student organizations, including the SDSU Film Society, KCR College Radio, and Iota Eta Pi.
