What made you pursue a career in advising?

I received a Bachelor’s in Literature and Writing and a Master’s in Higher Education Administration. I pursued a degree in higher education because I want to help students advance their education.

Growing up in southeast San Diego influenced me to become an academic adviser. I want to help students from all backgrounds work towards completing their degrees and advancing their careers. Higher education plays a large part in the opportunities for the future and I enjoy helping students with questions or overcoming problems that will help them reach their goals.

What does being part of the SDSU community mean to you?

Being a part of the SDSU community has always been a goal of mine. I love the diverse population attending and working at SDSU. I also enjoy helping students from San Diego and out of state students who are helping to enrich San Diego.

What advice would you give to students in the CJ or PA majors?

Take some time to relax and calm down. I understand that we’re all racing towards the finish line and careers, but you should also enjoy the time you have in college: join clubs, go to concerts (when it is safe), spend time doing things that make you happy. School is important but so is your mental health.

What is your favorite place on campus?

The Mediterranean Garden, it’s a great place to read and relax.

What do you like to do outside of work or SDSU?

I spend a lot of time reading, thrifting, and sewing. I started sewing a few years back and it was a great creative outlet in quarantine. I try to keep my sewing as sustainable as possible so you can definitely find me at a thrift store looking for fabric or clothes to rework and reimagine.

What is one thing that fellow CJ and PA students may not know about you?

I love fashion history shows and podcasts. It’s interesting seeing how certain aspects of fashion have developed or returned over the years.
