International Experience Influences Communication Student

Sean Taylor
School of Communication Outstanding Graduate, 2018
During his time at SDSU, Sean Taylor learned the power and importance of understanding how language is a key role in solving societal issues. Double majoring in Communication and Sociology, he is connecting the two majors to understand societal issues and how he can use his education to help find solutions.
While on a faculty-led study abroad trip to Europe through the School of Communication, Taylor applied this knowledge to his international experiences.
“There were many lessons I learned on the trip [but] the most important to me was that there is so much we can learn from other cultures,” Taylor said. “Part of my desire to get involved in international work stems from this philosophy.”
Outside of campus, Taylor volunteered as a service learning tutor through his leadership minor for two foster children in Lemon Grove. As a tutor for the two boys, he wishes all students were required to participate in an experience as such.
Taylor plans to continue his education by pursuing a graduate degree in public policy at UCLA.
