Hayley Ulle is graduating with a degree in Interior Architecture from SDSU School of Art + Design with plans to pursue a career in either fashion or graphic design.

Ulle, who holds the highest GPA in her class, credits her success in large part to her strong work ethic, perseverance, and initiative to accomplish her goals. Hayley believes her studies at SDSU have helped her express her creativity and improve her professional presentation skills which she expects will serve her well in the future.

Currently, Ulle works as a senior stylist for online shopping brand, Stitch Fix, which provides her plenty of opportunities for her to express her creativity and her knowledge of “color theory” which she learned in Art 101.

Though Ulle has greatly excelled in her Design program, it hasn’t always been easy. She reflects on her struggle as a new student in Interior Architecture without any 3D modeling software skills. Not to be deterred, Ulle took it upon herself to learn how to use the complicated software program on her own. She also struggled with fear and inhibition due to her lack of drawing skills. However, over the course of her studies at SDSU, she picked up new skills and gained confidence in her drawing abilities. Ulle says both of these challenges have made her a better artist and designer because they required her to rely on herself to solve her problems and achieve her goals.

One of the most important lessons Ulle learned at SDSU is that everyone has a different approach to the same prompt and it’s okay to be different. Don’t be afraid to jump in and try something new to push past your creative comfort zone. She encourages everyone to wear their differences with confidence, and, she adds, don’t forget to stock up on coffee for all-nighters spent researching, drafting, and modeling!
