August 27, 2022
The School of Music and Dance welcomes new Assistant Professor of Piano, Tina Chong. Chong holds a DM and MM from Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and a BM from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
Chong is a professional piano soloist and has appeared in orchestras such as Calgary Philharmonic, the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, and the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. She has played in the San Diego Symphony since 2017.
She is an advocate for alternative and accessible keyboards, and is responsible for the acquisition of two reduced-size keyboards at SDSU. Because of Chong, SDSU is the first university on the West Coast to have reduced size keyboards available.
Chong is a prizewinner in a number of competitions held across the globe including the Montreal International Musical Competition and the Jacques Klein Piano Competition in Brazil.
