PSFA Temperature Taking Protocol
Every SDSU employee must have their temperature taken when arriving at their workplace. Employees are defined as any person who receives a check from SDSU (GTA's, student workers, faculty, staff).*
In each school a no touch thermometer and clipboard for documenting that your temperature has been taken will be made available. Please check with your school director for the location(s) of these items.
In PSFA, employees are asked to take their own temperature and notate the time on the sheet provided. You should not enter your actual temperature, just that you've taken it.
Please follow these steps when arriving at work:
- Please wipe the handle of the thermometer with an available disinfectant wipe or spray.
- Take off any head covering and pull back any hair on your forehead, aim the thermometer at the center of your forehead, and pull the trigger. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR SKIN WITH THE THERMOMETER.
- Hold the trigger until the thermometer beeps.
- Please note when and where you took your temperature on the sheet provided, and then check the temperature in the window.
- If your temperature is normal, you should see a green light. If your temperature is normal, please wipe down the handle and leave.
- Anything above 100℉ will light up red in the window. If your temperature is 100℉ or above, please put down the thermometer and sit down in a cool place for 15 minutes.
- Take your temperature again.
- Please note when and where you took your temperature, and then check the temperature in the window.
- If your temperature is 100℉ or above, please leave immediately and return home.
- Notify your school Director and the Associate Dean for further instructions regarding covering your class(es).
- Notify your doctor and arrange for a test for the COVID-19 virus. Contact Clarence Singh in the Dean’s office for further information about procedures regarding leave.
For further guidance about how to capture temperature readings follow the directions included with the thermometer. Many NCITs are pre-set to register an “alarm” at 100.4 F--the CDC standard for COVID-19 screening. Following San Diego County Safe Reopening requirements, SDSU has set a more stringent temperature standard at 100.0 F. You may use the temperature readout to assess whether a student meets SDSU’s 100.0 F standard, or you may reset the “alarm” using these directions.
*HIPAA guidelines prevent actual temperatures being recorded and shared, however, we are asking that employees record when they have their temperature taken.
Faculty Guidance for COVID Policy Violation
This guidance offers progressive actions faculty teaching face to face courses during the fall 2020 semester may take in a situation where a student does not comply with Covid19 Student Policies. Students are expected to abide by these policies and students failing to do so should be referred to the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities.
Starting in the fall 2020 semester, if a student refuses to wear a facial covering in the classroom and/or comply with other campus COVID-19 safety protocols, it is recommended that faculty take the following progressive actions to elicit student compliance:
If a student is not wearing a required facial covering:
- Tell the student to wear a facial covering; if available,
- Offer the student a new, unused facial covering, OR
- Tell the student to leave the classroom to retrieve/obtain a facial covering; if the student refuses to comply,
- Tell the student to leave class for the remainder of the class period; if the student refuses to leave,
- End the class session or meeting; if the student refuses to leave,
- Contact University Police if the student displays violent or aggressive behavior
- Report the behavior to the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities for followup
If a student is not practicing physical distancing:
- Tell the student to stay six feet from others; if the student refuses to comply,
- Tell the student to leave class for the remainder of the class period; if the student refuses to comply,
- End the class session or meeting; if the student refuses to leave,
- Contact University Police if the student displays violent or aggressive behavior
- Report the behavior to the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities for followup
If a student does not clean their work space:
- Tell the student to clean/disinfect the workspace they used; if they fail to comply,
- Report the behavior to the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities for followup if student refuses to clean/disinfect the workspace
SDSU Flex Letter for SASC
Attached is a copy of a letter that you may see from student(s) who are not able to attend your class in-person. The protocol is that students will report their Covid-related concerns to Student Ability Success Center, who will work with the student to ensure they have access to care, support, or other resources as needed, related to however it is that Covid is impacting them and their life. SASC will then give the student a letter and the student is to provide this to you. The student has the option to also include me, but that's not required.
