No, not necessary, although it makes sense and most students do take then back-to-back.
9. Will I have to study abroad in order to complete the minor?
Yes, the international studies minor (ISM) requires a study abroad experience. You may substitute any study abroad credits as long as they are academic credits and taken after you have declared the minor and successfully completed PSFA 350.

No, the minor requires 6 units (2 courses) worth of study abroad. You can typically do it in one semester or a summer.

No, as long as the course is taken abroad and earns you academic credits.
12. How do I pick the country for study abroad?
Some students may already have ideas about where their destinations should be. For others, you’ll be guided in PSFA 350 to combine your interest with the country where it’s most suitable to research your topic.
13. I’ve taken some courses at SDSU that are for my major, but are listed as electives for the ISM, can I “double dip” them?
Unfortunately, you cannot “double dip” a course from your major (required or electives) for the international studies minor. This is University policy.
14. Does it matter when I take the electives? If I’ve taken a course that’s on the elective list prior to declaring the minor, would it be counted if it’s not for my major?
Yes, it can be used toward the Minor; AND, you may double dip with GE courses.
15. I have studied abroad prior to signing up for the international studies minor, could I use it to fulfill the minor’s study abroad requirement?
Unfortunately, you cannot back track prior experiences into the ISM, because the specific requirement for the ISM is based on the completion of 501 and 502 during which you will need to be collecting data for your research project.

It is possible. Please consult with the Minor’s advisor.
